PARTNERS IN EDUCATION PROGRAM
ACADEMIC YEAR 2002-2003

The Embassy of the United States of America is pleased to announce the Partners in Education Program (PiE) in the Russian Federation. The Freedom Support Act-funded Partners in Education Program aims to support democratic and educational reform in Russia by assisting the development of civics education and social studies curriculum modules in schools. The PiE Program is supervised by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State, and administered by the American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS.

Secondary school social studies educators and administrators, plus instructors at pedagogical institutes, from select regions in Russia will be chosen through an open, merit-based competition to participate in six-week community-based training and internship programs at U.S. secondary schools. Internship activities will include class observation, presentations, school board and PTA meetings, development of teaching materials, and professional development workshops. Through these activities, participants will develop an understanding of the U.S. educational system at the local level, and its governance and relationship to the community. Target regions include:
- Tomskaya Oblast
- Krasnodarskiy Kray and Adygeya Republic
- Amurskaya Oblast and Jewish Autonomous Oblast
- Novgorodskaya Oblast and Pskovskaya Oblast.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS DECEMBER 14, 2001

Non-English speaking school directors from Russia are eligible to participate in a special three-week PiE program focused on community-based school administration. In the 2002-03 academic year, twelve secondary school directors/administrators will be selected to participate in the program from five target regions:
- Altayskiy Kray and Altay Rebublic
- Vologda Oblast
- Tambov Oblast
- Primorskiy Kray
- Republic of Tatarstan
