FREEDOM SUPPORT ACT UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

ACADEMIC YEAR 2002-2003

The Embassy of the United States of America is pleased to announce the opening of recruitment for the 2002-2003 Freedom Support Act Undergraduate Program. This program will provide scholarships to first-, second-, and third-year university students in the Russian Federation to study at the undergraduate level on a one year non-degree program at community colleges and universities in the United States. The Freedom Support Act Undergraduate Program is a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State administered by the American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS in conjunction with Youth For Understanding (YFU).

Finalists are selected through an open, merit-based competition. Recruitment will be for the following academic fields: (Please note the exceptions):
Agriculture
American Studies
Business
Computer Science (first year only)
Economics
Education (second and third year only)
Environmental Management
International Relations(second and third year only)
Journalism/Communication
Political Science *sub-category to Political Science - LAW
Sociology *sub-categories to Sociology – Public Health, Civic Education, Criminal Justice Studies

In addition, students' academic studies will be enhanced by community service activities, a practical internship, and an end-of-year workshop.
